From a Letter to a Friend

All of us have empty spaces in our lives having to do with missing certain individuals. Here is a personal poem written for a friend:

The Empty Space

I am listening
to music gloriously
full of color woven through with golden strands.
I would rest my head on your shoulder
if I could.

I am dancing
in solitary choreography.
I would rest a hand on your shoulder
and echo your steps
if I could.

I am seeing
an empty space
where once you were
and I would bring you back
if I could.
